Dunlop Tennis Rackets: The Long-Established Brand for Every Court

The history of Dunlop as a brand dates back to the 19th century, when it rose to worldwide fame for inventing air-filled bicycle tires. In 1932, the company entered the tennis market with a racket that would inspire the best players in the world for more than 50 years: the Dunlop Maxply. This wooden racket was played by the legendary Rod Laver, who won over 200 singles titles with the Maxply in over 282 finals appearances––a record that stands to this day.

A young and wild American who also wrote tennis history with a Dunlop Maxply Fort was not any less prominent: John McEnroe, who won seven grand slam titles between 1979 and 1984 alone. The year 1980 marked a turning point in tennis when synthetic materials replaced wood as the main component for tennis rackets. Dunlop presented its 150G-Racket constructed from injection moulded carbon fibres. The following year, McEnroe beat his rival Björn Borg still using the Dunlop Maxply Fort before plastic frames also caught on among professional players. In 1982, Dunlop launched the 200 G, which accompanied the great Steffi Graf on her remarkable journey of success.

Since then, Dunlop has repeatedly reinforced its outstanding reputation among tennis pros with top-class rackets but couldn’t equal the numbers of Wilson or Dunlop in the last 25 years, even though they leave nothing wanting in regards to quality compared to their competitors. To this day, Dunlop has a reputation for manufacturing tour and all-around rackets of the finest quality with outstanding test results, which is why they are played by avid fans of the brand worldwide. Whether you are a beginner, an advanced or a tournament player: Dunlop tennis rackets are always the right choice. They are by no means inferior to the market leaders’ rackets in terms of playing characteristics and could therefore also be an excellent opportunity to show your individuality on the tennis court without having to make concessions in regards to quality.

Dunlop – Passion for Tennis

When you browse through our online shop, you will find a wide range of Dunlop rackets. In contrast to many competitors, their brand strategy has never focused on just one or a few product series. Instead, the company offers a large variety of state-of-the-art rackets with different playing characteristics to choose from.

Apart from top-quality tennis rackets, Dunlop is also renowned for its excellent tennis strings, which you can use to complete your purchase accordingly––be it with Dunlop or other strings. You can also find some helpful information from the strings experts on our website.

Buying a Dunlop Racket – What to Keep in Mind

A tennis racket is only as good as its specifications––this rule also applies to Dunlop rackets, of course. You can ask your trainer at the club to help you choose the ideal tennis racket or try the racket finder on our website for some helpful advice. Furthermore, you should keep in mind that the most important criteria for tennis rackets are

  • weight
  • head size
  • grip size

Beginners usually find rackets with a bigger striking surface easier to handle than the smaller ones experienced and professional players typically use, for it allows for more mistakes. Regarding weight, rackets over 300 grams require a certain amount of strength in your arms and very clean strokes. Therefore, most hobby players are better off with rackets below 300 grams.

To facilitate your search, we have divided the Dunlop rackets available in our shop into four different categories: junior rackets, allround racketstour rackets, and comfort rackets. Comparing allround and tour rackets with each other could be a worthy exercise because their differences are not too extreme.
