HEAD Radical: which model suits your game?

With HEAD Radical tennis rackets, weight is the key factor: the 270-gram Radical Elite and 280-gram Radical Team are built for club play, the 300-gram Radical MP for advanced players, and the 315-gram Radical Pro for tournament players. If you're torn between two models, go for the lighter one – you can always add weight with lead tape, but you can't take it off again.

Which Radical suits you?

Model Weight Best for
Radical Team L 260 g Stepping up from a junior racket
Radical Elite 270 g Beginners and recreational play
Radical Team 280 g Club and team play
Radical MP 300 g Advanced players, all-round
Radical Pro 315 g Tournament and competitive play

The rule of thumb: lighter models have a bigger hitting surface and forgive shots that don't land dead-centre. Heavier models play more precisely but demand a cleaner contact point. The Radical MP and Radical Pro are also available with the dense 18/20 string pattern – 18 mains to 20 crosses – which gives more control and less spin. Not sure which model fits your level? Our racket advisor can help.

Radical, Speed or Gravity – which HEAD series?

Within the HEAD tennis rackets range, the Radical series is the middle, control-oriented choice that doesn't lock you into one playing style – unlike the other series:

  • HEAD Speed: Built for flat, fast balls and short swings.
  • HEAD Gravity: Combines control with a large hitting area.
  • HEAD Extreme: The thicker frame gives the ball plenty of spin.
  • HEAD Prestige: Classic control for players with solid technique.

The Radical family starts with the HEAD junior rackets from 175 grams and spans HEAD women's rackets and HEAD tour rackets right up to rackets for advanced players. You'll find older generations discounted in the HEAD sale.

Good to know

Not sure about the weight?

What's the difference between the HEAD Radical MP and the Radical Pro?

The Radical MP weighs 300 grams with a balance – the weight distribution along the racket – of 320 millimetres, while the Radical Pro weighs 315 grams at 315 millimetres. The Pro feels more stable against heavy balls but demands a faster swing speed; the MP is more forgiving.

Which HEAD Radical suits a player stepping up from a junior racket?

The Radical Team L, at 260 grams, is the lightest model in the adult range and is the most forgiving thanks to its large hitting surface. The next step up is the Radical Team at 280 grams.

Is the HEAD Radical a good choice if you have arm problems?

Only to an extent: the Radical is an all-round tournament racket, not a dedicated comfort racket. If your arm is sensitive, a lighter model with a soft string is the better choice – the comfort rackets and comfort tennis strings are built specifically for that. If the pain persists, get the cause checked out before switching rackets.
