HEAD Speed: Pace for Players with a Long Swing
The HEAD Speed line is built for fast, offensive tennis: you swing long, add pace to the ball, and keep just enough control to land it near the baseline. Within the HEAD tennis rackets range it sits between the control-oriented Prestige line and the spin-focused Extreme line. The Radical line plays more all-round.
Which HEAD Speed model suits your level?
Weight is the clearest way to choose: the lighter the frame, the freer you can swing; the heavier it is, the more consistent swing it demands – and the more stable it stays against hard-hit balls.
The string pattern tells you how many main and cross strings the frame carries: the Speed Pro has a dense 18/20 pattern for more control, while all the other models run the more open 16/19, giving you more spin – the extra bite that makes the ball dip earlier. Head size is the hitting area: 645 cm² for the MP, MP L and Pro, 677 cm² for the Team, and 740 cm² for the PWR – the bigger it is, the more forgiving. What makes the Speed line special
The Speed line covers a wide range: thanks to its large head, the PWR sits among our comfort rackets, while the models from 300 g upward count as HEAD tour rackets and rackets for advanced players. You can move up within the line as your game improves rather than switching families – though no frame can make up for weak technique. The Speed Legend editions stand apart, inspired according to Tennis-Point by Novak Đoković: the Pro Legend 2025 features Hy-Bor, a material borrowed from aerospace, which the manufacturer says adds stability, plus Auxetic 2.0 for extra feedback.

Do HEAD Speed rackets come strung or unstrung?
The tour rackets in the current Speed generation ship unstrung so you can choose your own string. Comfort and junior models, on the other hand, arrive fully strung. The product title always states which version you're ordering.
What's the difference between the Speed MP and the Speed MP L?
Both have a 645 cm² head size and a 16/19 string pattern. The MP L weighs 285 g instead of 300 g, and its balance point sits further towards the head at 325 mm instead of 320 mm: it's easier to swing quickly, while the MP stays more stable on contact.
Are there HEAD Speed rackets for kids too?
Yes. The junior models in the Speed line come in shorter lengths from 21 to 26 inches – you'll find them among the HEAD junior rackets. Teenagers who already play full adult length but want less weight can go for the Speed MP L at 285 g.
