Sebastian Korda: Rising Tennis Star from Florida

American tennis player Sebastian Korda was born on July 5, 2000, in Bradenton, Florida. He's the son of former Czech tennis pro and Australian Open champion Petr Korda, who is also Sebastian's coach as well as a former world No. 2. The rest of the family is just as sports-mad: Sebastian's mother, Regina Rajchrtová, is a former top-30 player, and his two older sisters, Jessica and Nelly, are professional golfers on the LPGA Tour.

Sebastian Korda played junior ice hockey from the age of three and didn't switch to tennis until he was nine, after visiting the US Open with his father in 2009. He also had success as a golfer, winning a golf tournament in Prague at age eleven. If he weren't a tennis player, he'd have loved to become a professional ice hockey or golf player. Sebastian's favourite NHL team is the Boston Bruins.

Sebastian speaks English and Czech. His nickname is Sebi. He names Radek Stepanek, Rafael Nadal and his father as his big tennis idols. Sebastian has a pet cat named Rafa, named after Rafael Nadal. He names hard courts as his favourite surface, considers his backhand his best shot, and feels most at home at the US Open among all the ATP Tour tournaments.

Key milestones in Sebastian Korda's tennis career

Sebastian Korda's biggest junior success came at the Australian Open in early 2018, where he won the final and rose to No. 1 in the junior world rankings. Another important milestone in Sebastian Korda's ATP career was his tournament win at the clay-court event in Parma in May 2021, where he beat Marco Cecchinato clearly in two sets in the final.

At the Next Generation ATP Finals in November 2021, he also got the better of Spain's Carlos Alcaraz. At the 2023 Australian Open, he reached the quarterfinal of a Grand Slam for the first time, after beating Daniil Medvedev and Hubert Hurkacz.
