Which Yonex tennis racket suits your game?

Want effortless pace and a big sweet spot? The EZONE series is your pick. Looking for spin – the ball's rotation – and precision for a modern baseline game? Then you play VCORE. And if you generate your own pace and need maximum control in return, reach for the Percept series.

The sweet spot is the area of the string bed that delivers the best combination of control and power. Miss it and you noticeably lose precision. Yonex tackles this head-on: the near-square Isometric head shape lengthens the outer main strings and, according to the manufacturer, enlarges this area.

Head size, weight, balance – the three key decisions

  • Head size: the strung area in cm², ranging with Yonex from 626 cm² (Percept 97) to 680 cm² (Astrel 105). The bigger it is, the more forgiving the racket; the smaller, the more precisely you can place the ball.
  • Weight: unstrung, between 260 g and 330 g. Light means faster to the ball, heavy means more stable against hard-hit shots – you'll feel both in the third set.
  • Balance: the balance point in mm from the butt cap. At 310 mm (Percept 97) the weight sits toward the grip and the racket turns over easily; at 340 mm (Astrel 105) it sits up front and adds heft.

Yonex tennis strings influence spin more than any frame technology, and Yonex overgrips adapt the grip to your hand. Lighter frames can be found among the Yonex women's tennis rackets. Tennis shoes, tennis apparel and tennis bags are all brought together in the Yonex brand world.

Our recommendation from Tennis-Point

Many models are available as Yonex demo rackets – so you can feel on court whether the frame suits you. A racket won't fix a technique flaw, but the wrong one will cost you nerves every set.

What does the “L” mean in Yonex models like EZONE 100L or Percept 100L?

The “L” stands for the lighter version: the Percept 100 weighs 300 g unstrung, the Percept 100L 280 g. The hitting area stays the same, only the weight drops – handy for a shorter swing or long matches.

Are Yonex tennis rackets strung or unstrung?

Both are available. Tournament rackets in the EZONE, VCORE and Percept series usually come unstrung, so you can choose your own string. Comfort models like the EZONE ACE come pre-strung. The spec is stated in the product name.

How do tournament, all-round and comfort rackets differ at Yonex?

Tournament rackets are heavy, carry their weight near the grip and reward good technique with control. All-round rackets sit in between and forgive more mistakes. Comfort rackets are light, carry their weight up front and add power on a short swing.
