String Reels– an Attractive String Alternative, not only for Pros

A high-quality tennis string is just as crucial for your game as your tennis racket. That’s why, even if you only hit the court once a week, you should treat your racket with a fresh stringing at least twice a year. The challenge: different manufacturers offer strings with sometimes totally different characteristics, which is especially challenging when you string your racket only occasionally. Hence, to ensure consistent performance properties, experienced players like to be able to rely on their string sets. Therefore, once you have found your favourite stringing piece, it makes sense to buy a whole reel and store it at home. Those reels are usually made of 200 metres of strings. To string your racket, you usually need 12 metres. Hence, one reel allows you to repeat the process roughly 16 times. What is more, if you browse our string shop, you will soon realise that we offer certain strings in single sets as well as in reels. Then, compare prices and consider whether a reel of your favourite strings might end up being a good alternative to a single set. By the way: most shops that string your racket are happy to use strings you have brought yourself for a special rate. Usually, it costs between 10 and 20 euros, but you can always try to bargain.

How to Find the Right Strings to Order in a Reel

Saitensets

If you would like to try how your game benefits from a perfectly tensed stringing, check out our string advisor. There, we have collected different experiences of countless tennis players in a database. When using our stringing advisor, you enter a few specifics about your game, based on which we offer you a range of three different strings that match your information – step two: string, test, repeat. Play different strings with different diameters and find just the one your game benefits most from.

Tip:a stringing’s characteristics vary under high heat, humidity, or cold temperatures. Hence, when testing strings, make sure to do so under different conditions.

Once you have picked your preferred strings, check whether you can get them in a reel, which is usually the case with most premium manufacturers. You may also “share” strings: ally with a teammate and buy one or several string reels. This way, both of you can save money while always being able to rely on proven material.

((H2)) What to Consider when Buying String Reels

When it comes to playing characteristics, string reels usually precisely resemble those of single strings. In our shop section “Tennis strings for your racket: what you need to know,” we give a detailed overview, which string categories you may choose from and what you need to bear in mind when testing and buying a new set of strings. You may apply the same criteria if you would like to buy your strings in reels. Since there you make a long-term decision, you should test extensively before definitely selecting your favourite model.

How to Store String Reels

The string reels you find in our shop are dispatched in protective packaging. Best store your strings in this exact packing. Generally, make sure to shelve them in a relatively cool and dry place and shield them from consistent sunlight. To go the absolute safe route, you may also ask your stringing shop whether they are willing to store and mark your strings. If they are, you only have to hand over your racket, and the stringing pro will know exactly what to do. Since strings usually tear in the worst possible moments, you may also cut those 200-metre roles into 12-metre pieces and pack them separately, ideally in a waterproof bag. This way, you have strings ready any time to drive by your stringing shop in case you need a freshly stringed racket for your next match.

Leave Nothing to Chance: String yourself with your Reel and a Stringing Machine

If you think about getting your strings in reels, you might eventually fit among those who string their rackets themselves. Our advice from before also works here: join forces with a few players from your club and form your own “stringing group.” Of course, our shop also offers high-quality stringing machines. Models you operate manually cost less than 500 euros while electronic machines vary between 700 and 1.500 euros. Needless to say that additionally, you will also find all the equipment you need to string your racket yourself in our shop. Now start your calculation: take into account the amount of money the whole team spends on stringing each year. Subtract what you can save when you buy your strings in reels and start stringing the rackets yourself, and you will soon find out that a stringing machine will pay off quickly – the more so, as there will undoubtedly be some space for the machine and your string reels in your clubhouse. To introduce yourself to the art of stringing, we recommend a course, which many manufacturers offer, or web tutorials.
